Concordia Language Villages

It began as an experiment: a two week German program for seventy two children, run in 1961 by a Concordia College faculty member named Gerhard Haukebo. French came the following year, Norwegian and Spanish in 1963, Russian in 1966. The permanent villages went up later on Turtle River Lake, each built to look like the place its language comes from. Around thirteen thousand people now come through in a year, from all over the country and from abroad.
